CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) – Clearwater Fire Rescue saved a man and his dog after a fire at an apartment building early Friday morning.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue was called to Residences at Renaissance Square, 1216 S. Missouri Ave., shortly before 5 a.m. for a structure fire. What appeared to be a kitchen fire was extinguished quickly by crews on the scene. An ambulance transported the resident to Morton Plant Hospital for smoke inhalation treatment. He’s expected to be okay.

Crews used a pet oxygen mask to save the small dog. The little pup is blind and looked extremely confused and skittish when fire rescue got it out of the apartment building. The dog’s fur was extremely matted and wet. SPCA responded to the scene and is bringing the dog to get checked out by a veterinarian. After vets examine the dog, SPCA will decide if it should go back with the owner, or a new home.
