According to the Clearwater Police Department, CPD officer was involved in a crash in the 2800 block of Gulf to Bay Boulevard that occurred around 3:45 a.m. Sunday.

Officer Steven Venezia was heading east to respond to a call for assistance from the Tampa Police Department when a Jeep changed lanes in front of him, causing the crash.

Venezia was taken to Bayfront Medical Center. The driver of the Jeep, and two passengers were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. The officer has since been released. A third passenger in the Jeep declined medical treatment. All injuries are considered non-life threatening.

At about 8:20 a.m. the eastbound lanes re-opened and traffic has resumed its normal pattern. 

The investigation is ongoing.
