The members of a community in Odessa are on a mission – they are working together to help a little boy get a heart transplant.
Jack Saville, 9, was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, according to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association’s website. Doctors at Shands Hospital in Gainesville recommended a life-saving heart transplant for Jack.
The entire community in Odessa is helping Jack’s family put together enough money to be able to afford the expensive procedure.
Every little bit helps – the Hammond Elementary School organized a loose change drive for him, the neighborhood had a garage sale, and Jack’s buddies had a bake sale at their lemonade stand. Neighbors from other areas came in to donate to Jack’s cause.
So far $75,000 has been raised. The community members are hopeful their mission will be successful.
