A 19-year-old Dunnellon man is charged with recording a woman going to the bathroom in a hospital.
Anthony James Desroches was arrested Tuesday. He is charged with video voyeurism. Desroches worked for seven months as an emergency medical technician at Christ Medical Center in Crystal River.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said Desroches admitted to taping in the bathroom for “gratification” and “pleasure.”
A victim was using the restroom when she noticed a cell phone on the wall facing the toilet, deputies said. The victim thought a patient dropped the phone so when she “finished using the bathroom,” she walked over and picked it up, deputies said. She then realized it was recording, the sheriff’s office said.
The phone had been recording for about 18 minutes. Video on the phone shows Desroches placing the device in the corner of a stall, positioning it and then leaving. The victim is seen in the video using the bathroom, redressing and walking toward the device.
Deputies said Desroches returned to the bathroom to retrieve the phone but realized it was gone. He admitted it was his, deputies said.
“He apologized for doing what he did and admitted he left the telephone in the bathroom,” the sheriff’s office said. “The defendant admitted to having a previous (addiction) to porn, which he is recovering from.”
Desroches said he got the idea to leave the phone while using the bathroom, deputies said. He admitted it was “a bad idea” to do so, and acknowledged it was wrong and illegal.
Detectives searched Desroches’ home computer and didn’t find anything of concern, deputies said.
