A Venice man is accused of attacking two people with an ax. The victims suffered cuts and scratches in the incident.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 1081 North Cypress Point Drive just before noon on Saturday. They say resident Robert Giampino 57, had gone outside to confront a family friend who was sitting in a vehicle in the driveway.

Giampino hit the window and shattered the vehicle’s glass with the ax, according to a SCSO spokesperson.

When the male victim ran away in an effort to escape the attack, investigators say Giampino grabbed his girlfriend’s daughter from behind and placed the ax blade against her neck. He let her go when she said she was going to call the police.

Neither victim was seriously injured. The female was cut on a finger while trying to protect her throat from the blade. The male victim received cuts and scratches from falling glass.

Giampino was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $200,000 and was released after posting bond.
