A newly released video shows millionaire murder suspect Robert Durst in front of a counter loaded with candy — but there’s nothing sweet about it.

The surveillance video from inside a CVS drugstore in Texas shows Durst, 72, taking a bathroom break on the sweets.

In the video, recorded last July, Durst picks up a prescription from the pharmacy, goes to pay, and then starts peeing on the candy at the check-out counter.

“This was a medical mishap, plain and simple. He had to go and he couldn’t hold it,” Chip Lewis, Durst’s defense attorney, told NBC affiliate KPRC.

Durst — the subject of the HBO documentary series “The Jinx” — had just had two medical procedures in a hospital a week before the video was taken, Lewis said.

“He had obviously been on IVs and given a number of prescriptions by attending doctors,” Lewis said.

“He patronized that store quite often and was very friendly and very well-liked by all the staff. He was embarrassed in that aspect. The people that were so good to him were put themselves in an embarrassing situation,” Lewis said.

Durst left the store before police arrived, but he later turned himself in, KPRC reported. He pleaded no contest to a charge of criminal mischief and ultimately was forced to pay restitution to the drugstore for the Class C misdemeanor.

Durst was arrested in March in New Orleans. He faces drug and weapons charges in addition to a murder charge in the slaying of his confidant Susan Berman in Los Angeles. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
