The Bartow Police Department and Bartow Middle School staff  evacuated Bartow Middle School students after a reported threat of a bomb on campus Thursday afternoon.

At around 1 p.m., school resources officers with the Bartow Police Department were notified of a suspicious note received at the Bartow Middle School.

The anonymous note was located on a printer in the main office and advised that a “bomb” was located within the school. No other specifics were given, according to a BPD spokesperson.

In an abundance of caution, school officials initiated an evacuation of the school, at which time officers with Bartow Police and the Bartow Fire Department responded.

Once the school was safely evacuated, officers and school officials, with the assistance of a detection canine, searched the campus.

900 students were relocated to the campus of Bartow High.

No suspicious device or items were located.

Detectives with the Bartow Police were called to investigate.

This investigation remains ongoing; but, no person of interest has been identified.

Officials have not identified any specific threat or other concern at this time.
