Police say a Boynton Beach mother told them she had been using the drug Flakka before she lost track of her infant daughter, who was found alone in front of a building on Thursday, crying, shivering and with diapers full of feces and urine.
Qushanna Doby, 20, is charged with one count of child neglect.
Investigators responded to a call at 6:55 a.m. about an unattended baby crying in front of a building at 500 Gulfstream Blvd. in Boynton Beach. They found the 1-year-old baby sitting about 25 to 50 feet away from the street. Her diapers appeared to have not been changed in a long time.
Officers say about five minutes after finding the baby, Doby ran up to them screaming, “My baby!”
Doby told police that she had been smoking Flakka the night before and hanging out with friends. A friend drove her to a hotel in DelRay Beach to meet a man. Doby told police she left the hotel at 3 a.m. because she did not want to have sex with him.
She then walked with her baby to a Walmart where she wound up sitting outside and feeding the infant bacon cheddar chips. Doby told police she put Sprite in the baby’s bottle for her to drink.
The next thing Doby said she remembered, she woke up in front of a Dunkin Donuts without her daughter. She told police she ran back to the Walmart, then saw flashing lights of police cars and fire engines and ran toward them to find police with her baby.
Doby was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
Detectives are working with the Department of Children and Families to make arrangements for the care of her baby daughter.
