Callers were blowing up the phone lines at Tampa Bay Sports Radio WDAE this morning, commenting on the Jameis Winston pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A majority of callers expressed positive feelings, but others expressed disappointment. One caller in particular was upset with the Bucs decision.
“I’ve been a fan since 1976. And I said when this discussion started months and months ago, that if we get him, I will not watch the Bucs,” the caller said. “He doesn’t respect women, and I don’t want to support a guy like that. As soon as he’s off the team, I’ll be right back with the Bucs, but I’m not going to support them while he’s there. They could win seven Super Bowls as far as I’m concerned.”
The discussion was front and center on the Ronnie and Tkras show, with the hosts also chiming in with their opinions. “His talent is undeniable on the field. We all know that. The off-the-field issues are the real question,” Tom Krasniqui – or Tkras – said. “My whole take over the past four months, when you’re picking a quarterback, number one overall, you have to make sure that his character is up here.”
Ronnie Lane believes the entire organization is betting that Winston will be the right fit for the Bucs. “They believe in the young man, otherwise they wouldn’t have taken him,” Lane said. “It’s not just Jason Licht and Lovie Smith. It’s the entire Glazer family that believes in this kid.”
