Polar bear cub in Japan makes first splash

A baby polar bear at a zoo in Japan made its first splash in a pool Tuesday.

The cub was born at Maruyama Zoo last December. It took the bear a little while to get used to the pool Tuesday, but soon it was jumping and splashing.

Mom Lara will eventually take the cub to deeper water to learn to swim.

Zoo officials have not announced the cub’s gender. They say it’s about 35 inches long and weighs 57 pounds.
