A South Florida convenience store clerk was surprised this week when a customer attempted to buy alcohol,  and offered a live alligator as payment.  Authorities say he was attempting to use a live four to five foot alligator  as barter at the Allapattah store, outside of Miami.

When the City of Miami Police Department responded and found the alligator, they called the Florida Wildlife Commission for assistance.

FWC said the man had seen the alligator at a local park. After managing to catch it, he took it with him to the convenience store in hopes that someone would be willing to trade him for beer.

FWC officers  cited the man for three different charges related to illegally capturing the alligator and then released the alligator.
